Ethel Jane (Retzlaff) Crum Gerber

The Star of Grand Coulee, Washington

Ethel Jane Crum Gerber, born November 23, 1918, in Oconto, Wisc, to Ernest and Matilda Retzlaff, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at the age of 91.

She was a nurse and in 1942, while serving in the Army, she met and married William F. Crum Sr. in Rantoul, III. Ethel worked in hospitals and nursing homes throughout the years and was nursing director of Ahtanum View Nursing Home in Yakima until her retirement when she moved to her son's home in Coulee Dam.

In 1992, Ethel married Frank A. Gerber in Woodinville and lived there until his death in 2006. Ethel moved back to Coulee Dam with her son Bill and wife, then moving into McKay Health Care & Rehab in Soap Lake.

Ethel is survived by four children: son Bill Crum (Diane) of Coulee Dam; daughter Kathy Murphy (Fred) of Hamilton, Mont., son Michael Crum (Karen) of Westlake Village, Calif., stepson Dale Gerber (Joy) of Poulsbo; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands William and Frank; son Steve; sister Lucille Retzlaff and brother Harold (Bud) Retzlaff.

A graveside service will be held at Carnation Cemetery, Carnation, Wash. Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
