Delores D. (Tahkeal) Whalawitsa

Delores D. (Tahkeal) Whalawitsa (72) of Nespelem, died in Spokane on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009. She was born in the Yakima Valley at Satus on January 17, 1937, to Henry and Aurelia (John) Tahkeal. She was raised and educated in the Yakima Valley and moved to Nespelem approximately 50 years ago where she worked at the Nespelem School District as a teacher's aide.

She is survived by four children: Lareesa, Cheryl, Lewis Jr. and DeeAnna Whalawitsa all of Nespelem; three grandchildren and one greatgrandson; one brother, Lawrence "Tony" Tahkeal of Oklahoma and one sister, Muriel George of Gold-endale.

Dressing services were held on Friday, August 28, at the Toppenish Creek Longhouse in White Swan. Overnight services were Friday evening with burial at the Yohmahet Cemetery in Union Gap.
