Electric City's grant application for funds to extend both water and sewer service to Sunbanks Lake Resort was denied, officials stated. The request was for $876,000.

The city made the request to the Washington State Public Works Board under its Small Community in Rural Counties Grant Program.

No reason was given for the application's denial, but the grant program's point system was heavily weighted in favor or projects that created and maintained new jobs.

In the application, the city and resort pointed out that among other developments, Sunbanks is interested in building a destination resort hotel on its Banks Lake property.

This would add about 100 full-time and 250 part time job positions when completed.

Sunbanks Resort has applied for annexation into the city and has gone through the final Boundary Review Board hurdle. City officials said they expect that the annexation will be complete by the end of November.

The Public Works Board funded projects in Aberdeen, Clarkston, Grandview, Kittitas, Mount Vernon, Pasco, Port Townserid, Union Gap, Raymond and a number of other areas in the state.
