A sentencing hearing has been set for Sandie Rena Akers, the Moorcroft woman accused of stabbing her husband to death in their motor home residence in July of last year. Akers appeared before Judge Michael Deegan August 12 and pled No Contest to manslaughter.

Akers was initially charged with one count of second degree murder; that charge was later upgraded to first degree murder. Even though the defendant had given a statement to Moorcroft police following the stabbing, she now denies having any recollection of committing the crime or confessing to it.

With no apparent basis for the guilty plea she had previously entered for first degree murder, the court was unable to accept that plea. The charge was amended to manslaughter and the defendant pled No Contest.

Akers remains incarcerated at the Crook County Detention Center with no possibility for bail. After a pre-sentence investigation, she will be formally sentenced October 14at lp.m.Tnemaximum penalty for manslaughter is 20 years incarceration and a $10,000 fine. She will also be evaluated under the Addicted Offender Accountability Act.
