Wyoming Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Jim McBride announced this past weekend that the third annual Wyoming Education Summary will be available next week and will be inserted in newspapers across the state. He encourages Wyoming residents to review the summary and educate themselves about essential facts and figures related to their districts.
The Wyoming Department of Education, under the direction of Dr. McBride, developed the publication to encourage dialogue in Wyoming about education.
"We want Wyoming citizens engaged in discussions about our schools, and about the results they expect for our students," Dr. McBride said. "This document is about transparency and accountability of information.
"I hope it will generate discussion about student results, and promote greater community interest and involvement in our schools," he said. "I also hope it will lead to greater involvement in schools by parents, civic leaders, business leaders and other individuals in our communities."
The statewide report card takes a look at various district-level categories of achievement and statistics such as graduation rates, expenditures, school environment statistics and assessment data.
While these indices have been readily available, this is the summarized compilation of the data and information. Dr. McBride said that one of the commitments he made when he took his position was to provide information that is transparent and readily available.
"In addition, the Wyoming Department of Education website provides results and information on every school and every school district in this state," he said. "Our students' success is dependent on our communities and their members being involved in the local schools."
The report and links to data will be available on the Wyoming Department of Education website at www.kl2.wy.us under New Information.
