Superiorites and other interested parties are being invited to participate in an exciting project.

It's been called the Queen Creek Trail, the Queen Creek Project and most recently has been officially named the Legends of Superior Trail" or for short the "Legends Trail." .

For several years the Town of. Superior in conjunction with the Tonto National Forest Globe District, the Arizona Trail Association (ATA), Resolution Copper as well as representatives from many state agencies have been working to develop and construct a trail system that will have direct access to the Arizona Trail Hewitt Station Trailhead as well as create community trails that allow for walking access through town. "It is with great excitement we announce that official work is going to begin to construct the trail," project officials said. A series of work days began Feb. 16. The series includes a Feb. 19 work day performed by Resolution Copper employees and contractors.

And on Saturday, Feb. 27 project partners will host the first Community Trail Work Day with a second work day tentatively scheduled for Saturday, April 10. Anyone interested in helping to build the trail is encouraged to meet at the Superior Airport on the west side of town at 7:30 a.m. both days.

These work days will end at noon with an appreciation lunch. The ATA will have tools available but participants are asked to wear closed toe shoes and protective clothing. Participants should also bring gloves. The areas of construction for these work days will be focused on the area from the airport west to the Hewitt Station Road Trail Head.

Local groups and businesses wishing to support the community work day by providing lunch and snack items or workers should contact Mila Lira at 520-827-0676.

The alignment of the full trail will eventually link the water tank on Old U.S. 60 to the east and link with the Arizona Trail oh the west and will consist of urban trails through Superior via Main Street and U.S. 60. The trail will be constructed to accommodate equestrian, foot and non motorized bicycles.
