Junior high students recognized for achievements at awards event

Superior Junior High School held its awards program on May 4 in the campus multipurpose room. Proud faamily and friends, community and school staff applauded as a number of students were honored for their accomplishments during the school year.

Principal/Superintendent Pete Guzman welcomed everyone to the assembly. Ceasar Villalobos led the Pledge of Allegiance. Faculty member Cheryl Lopez introduced Student Council officers, including President Ceasar Villalobos, Vice President Amber Hernandez, Secretary Justenne Urquijo and Treasurer Michael Rivera.

Counselor Anna Flores recognized Angela Campos and Rkardo Ochoa for perfect attendance.

She also presented honor roll awards. Achieving the honor roll one time were Zachary Allison, Ariel Bueno, Natasha Floyd, Tyler George, Rogelio Hernandez, Marcus Hirach-eta, Adrian Johnson, Lisa Lusk, Oscar Rangel-Velasquez and Christopher Villaverde. On the honor roll two times were Clarissa Arvayo, Fernando Bringas, Grace Calhoun, Jilissa Guerra, Amber Hernandez, Jeneca Hernandez, Ricardo Ochoa, Janessa Perez, Richard Ramirez, Ceasar

Villalobos, Angelique Villegas and Richelle Villegas. Students achieving three-time honor roll status included Ariel Alonzo, Kiyoko Alonzo, Ashley Barreras, Maria Barreras, Abbigale Calhoun, Angela Campos, Brianna Denogean, Lindsay Duarte, Hunter Flanagan, Alysia Fuentes, Linda Jones, Michael Lira, Shelby Lopez, Paul Madueno, Megan Mashaw, Richard Matthews, Tyler Mayfield, Cierra Navarrette, Mariza Padilla, Kiara Romero, Cody Schcolnick, Justenne Urquijo, David Vanwinkle, Eva Villalobos and Matthew Zavala.

More awards included those to-Ariel Alonzo (Woodmen of the World History Award) and Justenne Urquijo (Bonnie Delbridge Memorial).

Classroom achievement awards (Cathy Denogean) in math and science went to Justenne Urquijo; (Billy Duarte) in math to Lindsay Duarte and in science, social studies and language arts to Hunter Flanagan; (Cheryl Lopez) in language arts to Linda Jones and U.S. history to Ariel Alonzo; (Karen Todd) in social studies to Richard Matthews and in language arts, math and science to Brianna Denogean; (Karen Bowman) Tl reading 7lh-grade to Shelby Lopez and 8, h-grade to Adrian Johnson and T2 reading 7lh-grade to Clarissa Arvayo and 8th-grade to Rogelio Hernandez. Presented also were awards to Grace Calhoun (special recognition, Debbie Adler), Hunter Flanagan (journalism, Cathy Denogean), Ceasar Villalobos (physical education, Veronica Yeoman), Ashley Barreras (French, Karen Todd), Martin Peru (Life Skills, Julia Crawford) and Hunter Flanagan (technology, Thomas Dooley).
