Fatal accident claims life of Miami woman

An area resident died as a result of an early morning May 7 one-vehicle accident on eastbound U.S. 60 at Mile Post 233.5.

Deceased is Sarah Powell, 31 of Miami. She was a passenger in a 2007 Chevrolet pickup driven by Evodio Barrientos, 47 of Oracle, who suffered non-life threatening injuries in the 3:47 a.m. accident.

According to the Department of Public Safety, which responded to the scene, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a "rock face within the canyon." The vehicle re-entered the roadway and rolled.

The passenger, Powell, was ejected from the vehicle.
