FLORENCE - The Pinal County Board of Supervisors adopted a final budget in the amount of $429,878,000 for the fiscal year of 2010-11.

Pinal County, like other Arizona counties, is struggling to deal with the declining economy at the same time the state is shifting its costs onto counties.. Cost shifts from the state require county taxpayers to shoulder an added burden of $0.27 per $100 of assessed value. The Supervisors approved lowering the county operational levy by five cents ($0.05).

To offset some of the impacts of the increased cost shifts from the state, the Supervisors approved nearly a half-million dollars in cuts from non-mandated programs.

When examining the entire budget, Pinal County receives over 31 percent of its revenues from intergovernmental funds, such as state shared revenues. Twenty-four percent of revenues are generated through property taxes. The majority of expenditures with the upcoming budget are in the public safety sector at 28 percent. Health and Human Services and general government operations are tied at 22 percent each.

The Pinal County Office of Budget and Research has prepared the attached Frequently Asked Questions to aid residents in understanding how Pinal County tax dollars and other sources of revenue are used. The complete budget is posted on the Budget Office section of the county website at http://www. pinalcountyaz.gov/Departments/BudgetOffice/Pages/Home.aspx.
