School deliberates parental concern regarding teacher discipline at special meeting

At a special school board meeting last week no action was taken following an executive session that arriong other agendized topics cited "parental concern regarding teacher discipline."

The meeting took place at 6:30 p.m. on August 12. The name of the teacher involved in the "teacher discipline" review was listed on the agenda, but not discussed in open meeting. No details or action on the topic was discussed in open meeting. Following adjournment the board responded to a question regarding the item that there was "no action."

It was not discussed in open meeting whether this was the same issue that prompted a John F. Kennedy

Elementary School father to come to a recent board meeting and air his concern regarding his kindergarten child being sent to the principal's office and leaving campus instead, wandering alone until found near the mortuary on Highway 177.

Following that incident that had occurred on the second day the child was in school, Superintendent/Principal Pete Guzman had sent a letter to parents/guardians reassuring them the school is "completely committed to students' safety and wellbeing." He said that the school is "taking all the necessary steps to make sure nothing like this ever happens again." He said the school has reviewed and updated policies for sending students out of class and other safety and emergency procedures.
