Residents of the Town of Superior will begin receiving new trash cans, according to Town Manager Melanie Oliver.

"These new trash cans are part of an amended contract recently signed by the town with Allied Waste," she explained recently. "Property owners who are delinquent with their trash bills and do not have current payment arrangements will have their trash can removed and will not be issued a new trash can until the bill has been brought current or arrangements have been made with the town manager. Residents with delinquent trash bills will not be allowed access to the bulk trash pickups held on the first and fourth Wednesday of every month."

Oliver said that in addition to the new trash cans, Allied Waste will provide a recycling program. This program will only allow for certain items to be dropped off. "Residents are asked to please follow the rules on what is allowed in the recycling drop off," she said. "Items will not need to be sorted but there are many types of cardboards and plastics that cannot be taken at the recycling bins. If the program is successful and residents drop off recyclables following the regulations the recycling program may be extended or become a permanent program. At this time the exact - location of the recycling drop off has not been determined."

Local community leaders will be taking a visit to Allied Waste's recycling center so they can better understand the recycling program and be able to help other residents understand what can be recycled locally and what cannot, Oliver said. "Allied Waste has also committed to providing additional educational programs about trash and recycling," she said.

If you have questions regarding your new trash can, the recycling program or your trash bill please contact the Town Hall at 520-689-5752.
