Foundation kicks 2010 membership drive and recognizes support of membership at luncheon

The United Superiprites Foundation hosted a free luncheon Nov. 7 at Macayo's in Dobson Ranch for the group's past, present and future member in appreciation for their continued support and to begin their 2010 membership drive.

Macayo's founder, Woody Johnson, was from Superior and the United Superiorites. His grandson Bubba is the restaurant's manager and accommodated the group with extra space for the luncheon.

Approximately 88 Superiorites from the Valley and some from Superior attended. Some of these were Jimmy Karam, Louis and Mary DaRugna, Tina (Besich) Lopez, Elgio and Virgie Ojeda, Dannie and Flora Gonzales, Consuelo Navarro, Linda Real, Ray and Lilly Gardner, Joyce Villanueva, Ray and Laura Vasquez, Johanna Ruiz, Bob and Angelina Munoz, David (Divie) Ybarra, Joe and Irma Urquijo, Manuel and Betty Sanchez, Joe Palacios and Becky Navarro and Ron Perez.

The United Superiorites' annual goal is to raise scholarship funds for those graduating seniors who apply from Feb. 1 to April 30 from Superior High School and Valley schools. These funds come from membership dues and an annual golf tournament held on the first Saturday of May. This year's tournament will be on May 1 at Queen Valley. Continuing United Superiorite officers of more than 18 years are President Charlie Higuera, Vice President Marcella Garcia, Treasurer Robert Perez and Secretary Sylvia Perez. Volunteers such as Linda Real and Higuera's daughters and brother, who help with the golf tournament, are also appreciated.
