ORANGE CITY -- State executive director John R. Whitaker has announced that farm operators in Sioux and O'Brien Counties who have suffered major forage/crop production and/or physical losses from recent flooding may be eligible for an emergency loan.

The Farm Service Agency may make an emergency loan to eligible family farmers in an effort to help them return to normal operations.

Farmers may repair or replace damaged or destroyed physical property, including essential buildings, fixtures to real estate, livestock or the loss of planted or unplanted crops. The cost includes clean-up.

Applicants must be unable to obtain credit from other usual sources to qualify for the Farm Service Agency loan program assistance. The interest rate is 3.75 percent.

Loans may be written up to seven years; however, if the loan is secured only on crops it must be repaid when the next crop year's income is received. Loans for real estate fixtures may be scheduled for a repayment of as much as

40 years.

The final application date is April 13, 2011.
