Robert Creech

Robert Young Creech III, 64, of Hartsville, S.C., died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, in the chapel of Melton Funeral Home.

Burial was in Keener Cemetery.

Born in Fort Pierce, Fla., he was a son of the late Dr. Robert Y Creech Jr. and Nancy Hooker Creech. He was a Vietnam veteran. He received his bachelor's degree from Western Carolina University. He taught mathematics for more than 30 years in Darlington County (S.C.) Schools. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hartsville, and a member of the S.C. Association of Educators and the National Association of Educators. He was also a third degree mason. He was board member of Habitat for Humanity in Hartsville and was awarded the Golden Hammer Award in 2007.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Jessica Irene Buchanan Creech.

Surviving are two daughters, Kathryn Linder of Irmo, S.C, and Capt. Erin Creech of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother, Lane Creech of Birmingham, Ala.; three sisters, Rachel Creech of Auburn, Ala., Nancy Schanne of Mullica Hill, N.J., and Dr. Amy Creech-Gionis of Tampa, Fla.; and two granddaughters.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
