Pathways Director Barbara Davis has been elected chairman of the N.C. Statewide Independent Living Council, a federally-mandated council that represents the interests of people with disabilities across North Carolina.

Council members are appointed by the Governor and a majority must be people with disabilities.

The main purpose of the NCSILC is to jointly develop, sign, and execute the State Plan for Independent Living with the state's Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services and Division of Services for the Blind. The CSILC, DVRS, and DSB are equal partners in carrying out the SPIL.

The NCSILC monitors, reviews, and evaluates the implementation of the state plan. The NCSILC also works with the Centers for Independent Living in North Carolina to assist individuals with disabilities live independently in the community.

Pathways is a Center for Independent Living providing a variety of services for people with disabilities in 14 Counties of Western North Carolina with the goal of assisting people to live independently in their homes and community. Programs include home care, targeted case management, advocacy, independent living skills classes, peer counseling and information and referral. Offices are located in Sylva, Asheville and Andrews.
