Eight D-C students hurt in bus accident in Kingston

Friday, Feb. 12, at 7:33 a.m., Meeker County Sheriff's Office received a call from the Das-sel-Cokato School Bus Company reporting that one of their buses had been involved in a vehicle accident with injuries at the inter-section of MN Highway 15 and CSAH 21 in Kingston Township.

The Dassel-Cokato school bus driven by John Rokala, age 78, of Dassel, was traveling eastbound on CSAH 21, crossing Highway 15, when a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Daniel Schneider, age 28, of Kimball was traveling south-bound on Highway 15. The Sil-verado collided with the school bus on the rear driver's side por-tion of the bus. The weather con-dition at the time of the accident was dense fog. Eight students were injured and transported to Litch-field and Hutchinson hospitals for further evaluation. The inju-ries received were non-life threat - ening. The students were middle-school age students from Dassel-Cokato School.

The State Patrol is investigat-ing this accident and the Meeker County Sheriff's Office is assist-ing. Agencies that responded were Meeker County Sheriff's Office, State Patrol, Dassel Fire and Res-cue, Gold Cross Ambulance, Wat-kins Ambulance, and Cokato Ambulance.
