The Stearns History Museum presents the new exhibit The World's Best, Finest and The Envy of Everyone in Town Feb. 21, 2010 - June 2011. Emerson's words describe the essence of invention. Passionate people, through the creative process, identify needs, generate new concepts and develop devices. Some reach success quickly, while others fail or see their ideas surface later as technology improves. Often, individuals, completely outside their expertise, devise a method to make a task more efficient. It is this quest to be "The World's Best,

Finest and the Envy of Everyone in Town" that motivates inventors to make their dreams reality.

For the past 150 years, Stearns County residents have participated in the process of American innovation. On a multiple of levels, they have invented, purchased, manufactured and used goods in their homes, at work and on their farms. Arguably, these new inventions have simplified life for the moment.

Five areas provide case studies in the spirit of innovation. "Products for the Masses" shows life at home and goods aimed at making domestic tasks easier. "The Desire to Heal" features technology that enhances health and lifestyles. Some worked better ithan others. "Putting the Pieces Together" focuses on devices from manufacturers that rely on otther innovative products from olther manufacturers. "The Stearns Inventive Spirit" captures the generation of local creativity and new ideas. Lastly, "Working the Land" highlights how technology has increased productivity ffor Minnesota farmers. What products have changed your life and what may replace them in the futu re?
