CopyDavid Olson of Annandale died Sunday, May 9, 2010, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. He was 81.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 14, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Annandale with Rev. D.J. Lura and Rev. Dave Nelson officiating. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale, and Friday one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Thursday. Burial will follow the services at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
David Olson was born May 16, 1928, in Buffalo to David E. and Alvina E. (Kaduce) Olson. He was a member of the United States Army during the Korean War, and married Betty A. Swingley March 21, 1953 in Buffalo. He was a lineman and cable splicer for Lakedale Telephone Company for 40 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he did much volunteer maintenance work. He was a former part-time Annandale Police Officer and former member of the Annandale Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, repairing small engines, and spending time with family and friends. He was a gentle giant of a man who loved people.
David is survived by his wife Betty of Annandale; sons Bruce of Kimball, and Carl (and Judy) of Newport News, Va.; sister LaVone (and Gordon) Pribyl of Maple Lake; grandchildren Jessica (and Dan) Olson, James (and Taffie) Olson, Matthew Olson, Brian (and Lisa) Olson, and Michelle Olson; eight step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Habisch, Dan Schmitz, Ron Mares, Scott Stopplemen, Fred Gunder-son, and Jim Thurber. Music for the service will be provided by Mark and Ardis Nelson, and Orma Lou Jacobsma.
