The 23rd Annual Students of Excellence Banquet and Awards ceremony took place Wednesday, April 28, at the St. Cloud Civic Center.

Students from Kimball Area High School that were recognized for their achievements were Kelsey Vigoren, Abigail Zoller, Shantel Tschida, and Sarah Messer.

Welcoming the more than 630 guests attending was Dr. Rob Cavanna, Executive Director for Resource Training & Solutions. The area's top 164 high school seniors being honored represented 42 high schools in the central Minnesota region.

The keynote address was given by Jackie Pflug. Her story was about "Life is a Journey, Everyone Gets Hijacked Along the Way," the title of her book about being the victim of an airline hijacking in 1985. Ten minutes after takeoff, three men calling themselves the Egypt Revolution began to wave their guns and proceeded to take control of the airplane on which she was a passenger. That situation changed Jackie's life forever. She was shot in the head, thrown on the tarmac, and played dead for five hours before being rescued.
