May 19, members of the Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) voted to reject Allina Hospitals and Clinics contract offers.

Nurses at Buffalo Hospital are not part of these contract negotiations and will not be involved in a strike. They will continue to provide the exceptional care and service this community has come to expect. They are also prepared to provide services to patients whose care may be impacted in the event of a strike by the nurses in the metro area.

The Allina facilities affected by these negotiations are Abbott Northwestern, Mercy, St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Phillips Eye Institute, United and Unity hospitals. Five other area hospital organizations are also affected, including Children's Hospitals and Clinics, Fairview, HealthEast, Park Nicollet and North Memorial. Contracts with the nurses union at all of these facilities run through May 31, 2010.

Those at Buffalo Hospital and Allina are tremendously proud of all of their nurses and believe that they are critical members of the healthcare team and an essential element of the patients' hospital experience. "We are committed to providing our nursing staff with contracts that balance fairness to our nurses with stewardship of scarce resources.

"We value the opportunity to care for you with professionalism, honesty and compassion." If you would like to learn more about negotiations and what is being discussed between Allina and the nurses' union, please visit <Allina.com>, or <TwinCitiesHospitals.com>.
