Jane Pickle honored for 50 years in banking

The Minnesota Bankers Association (MBA) recently inducted Jane Pickle of State Bank of Kimball into its Pioneer Club during its 121st Annual Meeting. The Pioneer Club honors bankers who have been in the banking industry for 50 or more years.

Jane Pickle is a 1949 graduate of Kimball High School. She married Dean Pickle on June 10, 1950, and they were blessed with two daughters, Judy and Susan. It was important to Mrs. Pickle to stay home with the girls until they started elementary school. Thus, her banking career started in 1960.

On June 30, 1960, President Erickson called and asked Mrs. Pickle if she wanted a job. After visiting with him, he said she should start working that day. Mrs. Pickle was hired as a bookkeeper/teller and her starting salary was $1.10/hour, that's $2, 280/year!

She worked 25 years for the Erickson family and 25 years for the present owner, Robert Meyerson and family. Mrs. Pickle was promoted to cashier and secretary to the board in 1971. Both of these positions she still holds today. Working as a cashier at the bank, Mrs. Pickle has participated in the bank's asset growth from

one million to 70 million. Among her many duties, she also serves as a head cheerleader and morale booster to fellow co-workers. When asked about what the biggest change has been over the years, Jane lists technology: completing bookwork with an old-fashioned quill pen in a ledger book to the modern day computer.

Mrs. Pickle has a daughter, Susan, with whom she had the pleasure of working at the bank for 10 years. Mrs. Pickle's other daughter Judy passed away in 1976, leaving a son Jesse behind whom Jane helped raise through college. Jesse also worked with Mrs. Pickle at the bank for 15 years.

Jane takes great pride in the many generations of customers she has helped over the years. She enjoys helping them balance their checkbooks, helping the elderly with their financial and personal needs, as well as gaining very many dear friends. Jane has been very active in the community, serving on the Kimball City Council for 19 years.

Mrs. Pickle has three grandchildren and one great-grandson, age 7, who loves to go hunting with Grandma Jane. Also, part of Jane's family is Philippe who is from France and teaches at St. Cloud State University. Jane has accepted

him as a grandson for the past 17 years, making him feel welcome in Minnesota. Lastly, Jane has one step-granddaughter who lives in Portland, Oregon. Husband Dean passed away March 14, 1997.

In addition to Mrs. Pickle, four other bankers from around the state were inducted into the MBA's Pioneer Club. "We are proud to honor these bankers for their tremendous and lifelong commitment to the industry, " said Joe Witt, president/CEO of the MBA. "It is because of their hard work and dedication that banks remain a solid foundation in their communities."

The other pioneer bankers are: Kathy Hallum, Rushford State Bank; Newman E. Olson, Jr., First National Bank of Osakis; Paul Tellefson, State Bank of Hawley; Wendale E Vander Broek, State Bank of Chandler.
