Tuesday evening, Aug. 25, 2009, the members and their spouses of the Kingston American Legion Post and Auxiliary, and guests met for their annual membership dinner and meetings.

Memberships were paid for the coming year, 2009-2010, and a pork chop dinner was served. The dinner was prepared by Keith Hanson and members of the Post. It was enjoyed by all that were present.

Guests were Bradley Hendrickson and parents Mr. and Mrs. John Hendrickson of rural Dassel. Bradley reported on his trip to Bethel University as a Boys' Stater.

Also present were Neil and Diane Knickerbocker and Nichole and Nyssa who gave a report on the 4-H Meeker County Interstate Exchange Program.

The guests this year were 4-H members from Montana who spent a week enjoying activities with the Meeker County 4-H members. They helped with cleaning up the fair grounds as a community service, also the twine ball in Darwin and various other sites. They made a trip to Duluth and to the Mall of America.

Nichole and Nyssa are members of the North Star Busy Bees whose leaders are Diane Knickerbocker and Mary Hanson. Nichole and Nyssa gave a very enjoyable report of the week's activities with the Interstate Exchange group.

The Post and Auxiliary held their separate meetings.

The Kingston American Legion Auxiliary officers for 2009-2010 are:

First vice president - Chris Jeppesen

Second vice president - Sandy Smith

Sargeant at arms - Opal Hedlund

Exec. Comm. - Ann Hamilton and Dorothy Jensen

Secretary - Judy Compton

Chaplain - Chris Jeppesen

Historian - Mary Jane Arens

Treasurer - Mary Jane Arens

Public Relations - Ann Hamilton

Next meeting wil be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, with lunch committee of Gladys Hanson and Maxine Cates.

The 2009 Dept. of Minnesota Legion and Auxiliary Convention was held July 16-18 at Mahnomen, Minn., with the theme: Pride in America - Pride in our Veterans.

The new auxiliary department president is Marsha Bible and the theme for the coming year is: A Celebration of Service - Celebrating 90 Years of Service to Veterans, Children and Community. There are 469 auxiliary units in Minnesota.

Treasurer - Darrel Hedlund

Chaplain - Luke Lekander

Next meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Kingston American Legion Hall-Community Center.

A fall turkey dinner will be sponsored by Kingston Legion members Sunday, Oct. 18.

The Minnesota Department Commander is Al Davis of Princeton, and the seventh district commander is J.R. Burrow whose motto is "From border to border, veterans serving veterans."

A resolution passed calls for an American Legion Day to be established Sept. 16 of each year.
