CopyLive frogs, toads and salamanders that reside in Lake Maria State Park will be featured during a program at the park's nature center beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20.
"We hope to include a leopard frog, wood frog, tree frog, green frog, the American toad and both the tiger and blue-spotted salamander if our search is successful," says Park Manager Mark Crawford, who points out the amphibians will be returned to the habitat where they were found.
A park naturalist will explain habitat, life cycles, identification, calls, food sources, winter survival and environmental concerns. "Both children and adults will enjoy this up-close, educational experience," explains Crawford.
The program is free, but there will be a $5 entry fee for those who do not have an annual park permit, which can be purchased at the park for $25.
Lake Maria State Park is located approximately seven miles northwest of Monticello, 10 miles northeast of Annandale or five miles north of Maple Lake on Wright County Highway 111. For directions and more information about park activities, visit its Web site at <www.mnstateparks.info>.
