Tuesday, Oct. 20, at about 1:30 p.m., Stearns County Sheriff's deputies responded to a farm accident at 35535 CR 14 in Spring Hill Township. The caller, Daniel Pung reported that his son, Steven Pung, 39, had climbed into a corn bin on the family farm. While Steven was in the corn bin, the auger started running and Steven was pulled down into the shelled corn. When deputies and rescue workers arrived, Steven was completely submerged in the corn. Deputies and members of the Elrosa Rescue Squad opened a lower hatch on the bin and began shoveling the corn out of the bin. They also climbed inside the bin and shoveled the corn away from Steven. Eventually, rescuers were able to free Steven from the corn. He was breathing and alert. They removed him from the corn bin and he was taken to the Paynesville Hospital by Paynesville Ambulance.
