The American Senior Safety Agency, which sells medical alarms for seniors, launched the Vial of Life Project. The "vial" is a clear plastic zippered baggie that contains a single sheet of paper. (See photo below.) That sheet of paper, though, contains vital information that can help emergency responders if they are called to your home. A bright red sticker on the baggie identifies it as a Vial of Life; this is to be placed on the refrigerator door to be easily found when needed. A similar sticker is to be placed on your front door or a visible front window to alert emergency personnel that there is helpful medical information inside the house (on the refrigerator door).

The information on this sheet includes date of birth, blood type, and native language. There is space to comment on hearing, vision, or speaking limitations. Past and current medical conditions should be listed, as well as medication dosage and frequency, and allergies to medication. Doctor's name and contact information, and health insurance information are also helpful to those providing medical assistance in an emergency.

You can pick up a Vial of Life at City Hall in Kimball or Watkins. This includes the baggie, stickers, and the form. This single-page form can also be filled out on-line and printed on your own printer, and you can update it as needed this way.

Encourage your loved ones to get and use a Vial of Life. It could help you get better and faster medical care in an emergency situation.
