Friday, Nov. 6, at 8:49 p.m., Meeker County Sheriff's Office received a call of a motorcycle accident on CSAH 1, a quarter-mile north of MN Hwy 7. Meeker County Deputies, Cosmos Police, Cosmos Fire and Cosmos Ambulance were dispatched to the scene. Steven William Quast, age 54, of Hutchinson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation shows that Quast was southbound on CSAH 1 when he struck a deer and lost control of the 1987 Harley Davidson motorcycle that he was riding. The motorcycle rolled several times and came to rest in the west ditch.

The Minnesota State Patrol assisted the Meeker County Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident. Deer-hunting, shotgun wound

Saturday, Nov. 7, at about noon, the Stearns County Sheriff's Office responded to a medical emergency in section 22 of Spring Hill Township southwest of 290th. Street and Highway 4. That location is approximately one mile north of the city of Spring Hill. A 14-year-old Melrose boy was wounded in the upper left leg by a shotgun slug. The boy was hunting with his father and 12 other men. The hunting group did a drive which caused a deer to run. Four men shot at the deer and a slug hit the boy in the left leg.

The boy was taken to the Melrose Hospital and was later transferred to St. Cloud Hospital where he remained overnight.

Also responding to the call were Lake Henry Fire and Rescue, the Melrose Police Department and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
