Alabama didn't prorate it's general fund for Fiscal Year 2010, and State Rep. Pebblin Warren is passing out opportunity because of it.

Warren received $16,000 in community service money from the general fund and distributed it all in Macon County to promote tourism for the most part. Saturday, November 21, she met two recipients of the funds to deliver checks and participate in friendly competition.

At Bray's Barber Shop in downtown Tuskegee, president Luther Curry received a $1,500 check to the Tuskegee Checkers and Domino Club. The money will allow the group to rent the Tuskegee Municipal Complex for three years. The club holds its annual William Bray Memorial Day Tournament in the Gregg Auditorium and has struggled in the past to find money to rent the facility.

Warren also delivered a $5,000 check to Willie Strain, chairman of the board for the Southeast Alabama Sickle Cell Association. Strain said SEASCA will use the money to help Macon County patients.

The rest of Warren's allotment from the general fund went to:

Tuskegee Main Street Development foundation -- $5,000 to fund the groups Experience Tuskegee event held earlier this month.

Macon County Kiwanis Club -$3,500 for the Macon County Junior Miss Pageant.

Shiloh Community Restoration Foundation - $1,000 to fund restoration of the Shiloh Rosenwald School.

Warren sat down with Cecil Willis for a game of checkers afterward. She struggled mightily in the first two rounds, but showed some bite in the third, pulling out a win.

Willis quit immediately after with his favorable record.
