The 4th District American Legion High School Oratorical Contest was held on Saturday, February 6, 2010. Post 5, of Emporia hosted the event. Eric Wilson, a senior from Osage Center, won the $600 first place scholarship. Contestants may compete all 4 years of High School unless they win the National Competition.

Despite the fact that no other young men or women chose to take the time to enter, Eric presented both the 8 minute prepared oration and the 3 minute assigned topic speeches and did a great job. Eric will now advance to the Department (State) Competition to be held at Post 5 in Emporia on Saturday, March 6, 2010.

Since 1938, The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program has encouraged the nation's high school students to study the U.S. constitution and to hone their public speaking skills. Total scholarship money exceeds $138,000 each year.
