Vic and Norma Zimmerman, Alta Vista, spent last week in Oklahoma, attending the graduation of their granddaughter, Kristen Brunkow, from Ponca City High School.

Kristen received a number of academic, track and community service awards, including the Student of Today award voted by the high school faculty.

While in Oklahoma, the Zimmermans were able to attend the Tournament of Champions at Oklahoma City, and see Kristen bring home the bronze medal in high jump. She also placed third in the Class 6A Oklahoma State Track and Field Meet, and holds the girls' high jump record of 5 feet 5 inches at Ponca City High School.

The Brunkow grandchildren will not be able to spend time on their grandparents' farm at Alta Vista this summer, as they usually do. Both have interesting summer jobs.

Kristen has been hired as an instructor by the Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders and will fly to Atlanta, Georgia, this week to join a team that conducts cheerleader camps throughout the United States. This fall she plans to enter Kansas State University to major in psychology with a minor in gerontology.

Eric Brunkow, who will be a senior in mechanical engineering at KSU, will spend another summer working for GE in Erie, Pennsylvania. This is the division that designs and builds railroad locomotives and monitors each one via computer.
