The White City High School graduates of 1960 gathered Saturday evening, May 29, 2010 at the Stone Store's Pearl Gallery in White City for a 50th class reunion. The evening began with a social hour and visiting at 5 pm, followed by a buffet dinner catered by Ray's Apple Market of Council Grove, under the direction of Beverly (Thomas) Kraus. Larry Laudemann gave the invocation.

Following the dinner, a moment of silence and a candle was lit in memory of deceased classmates conducted by Mary Ann (Berry) Laverentz. The class prophecy was read. A prize was given for the closest to actuality, and a lot of good laughs which followed. The class history was read. Members of the class that served in the Armed Forces were honored and recognized. Jerry Joe Vasques received the prize for traveling the longest distance. Sue (Estes) Metcalfe won the prize for the most grand and great grandchildren. Gene and Lana (Anderson) Allen won the prize for being married the longest.

The class members were pleased to have five of our six senior year teachers present and one from our freshman year. Senior year teachers present were Louis and Evelyn (Levin) Johnson of Belleville, Kansas; Gary Watts and wife Joann of Galena, Kansas; Jack Hobbs and wife Nyla of Hesston, Kansas; June Anderson of White City and freshman year teacher, Alton Lee and wife Marilyn of Manhattan. An informative letter from senior year principal, Don Halbower of Great Bend, Kansas was read.

The class members present introduced themselves and their spouses with a "sometimes" brief history covering the last fifty years of their lives. Class members present were Roger Lee and wife Carol of Parsons, Kansas; Marvin Roberts and wife Donna of Lane, Kansas; Jerry Cassidy and wife Judy of Denver, Colorado; Dana Dodderidge and wife Carol of Manhattan; Beverly (Thomas) Kraus of Council Grove; Mary Ann (Berry) Laverentz and husband Loren of Manhattan; Jerry Rohloff and wife Dixie of Kansas City, Kansas; Jerry Joe Vasques of Lompac, California; Robert Becker and wife Mary of Berryton, Kansas; and Sue (Estes) Metcalfe, Larry Laudemann and wife Ruth, Don Harmison and wife Karen and Lana (Anderson) Allen and husband Gene, all of White City.

Letters were read from Phyllis (Wendt) Mackovic and Johnette Scott, both unable to attend. All letters were received and read by the Mistress of Ceremonies, Lana (Anderson) Allen.

All attending enjoyed the hospitality and pleasant setting of the Stone Store's Pearl Gallery and Nina Miley, of which we all extend thanks, remembering the building as "Vernon's Market" some fifty years ago.

Respectfully submitted by Lana (Anderson) Allen, Class of 1960, WCHS
