Local students win state awards, compete for state office at FFA convention

Members of the Council Grove FFA Chapter was recognized for having one of the best career development programs in the state at the 82nd Kansas FFA Convention.

Jamie Ross, Kristin Glick, Jessica Zimmerman and Tyler Glessner received a State FFA Proficiency award during the convention for outstanding accomplishments she has made in developing programs that will prepare them for a career in agriculture.

In response to the Real Service Challenge, FFA chapters statewide were recognized for completing 18,658 service hours. The announcement was made Wednesday the 82nd Kansas FFA State Convention on the Kansas State University campus.

A member of the Council Grove FFA Chapter is among the 16 candidates running for a state officer position this week. Kristofer Wittman, a 2010 graduate of Council Grove High School, will complete an intense process of interviews, tests, and public speaking demonstrations throughout the week as part of the 82nd Kansas FFA State Convention on the Kansas State University campus.
