Shooting incident near Harveyville

On Monday, August 16, at about 5:00 p.m. Wabaunsee County Sheriffs Dispatch received a call from Tyrel Buch-meier. Buchmeier reported having an altercation with a white male and that he (Buchmeier) had shot this person. The incident occurred when Buchmeier stopped to help this person whom he believed was having car trouble. .The shooting occurred on Miller Road near Harveyville.

Buchmeier is employed by the Wabaunsee County Sheriffs Office as a Jailer. He was off duty when the incident occurred and has been placed on paid administrative leave as directed by Wabaunsee County Sheriffs Office policy. Administrative leave does not imply or indicate that the employee acted improperly. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation was called to investigate the incident. The individual that was shot was transported to a Topeka hospital with non-life threatening injuries by Life Star. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. No other information is available at this time.
