Morris County Senior Citizen Board of Directors meeting Notes

Vice President Don Litke called the August meeting to order which was followed.by the pledge of allegiance. Board members present were Don Litke, Robert Mark, Jerry Britt, Marilyn Miller, Irma Disberger, and Don Telford. Others in attendance were' Peggy Peters, Judy Stewart, Lana Allen, Anna May Olson, Ron Haug, Joanne Gieswein, Audrey Cashman, Lea Walker, Karen Mayse NC-FH AAA Representative, Phyllis Waugh, Elizabeth Koegeboehn, Edna Gaston, Gordon D. King, Wayne Krase and Delma Boyer.

Minutes of the July meeting were approved as printed. The treasurer's report was presented by Ron Haug.

Peggy Peters, site manager of the Council Grove Senior Center, presented her report for July. This report included meal stats, volunteer hours, and monthly activities. Blood pressure checks were held by Caroline VonFeldt and PRN which also offers weight check. Nail care was another service offered in July. Donated items to the center included napkins, tea, paper plates, tissue, hot pads, dollars, and fresh produce. Twenty-seven pieces of DME were checked out. The Dairy Queen Fund Raiser-for the center was a huge success.

The Rolling Prairie Senior Center report was presented by Judy Stewart, site manager. This report included meal stats, volunteer hours, and activities. Nutrition education was on Vitamin K and blood thinners plus the benefits of whole grains. Exercise class continues three times a week and there is a monthly blood pressure check. There was an excursion trip to the Orphan Train Museum. Fresh produce of squash, cucumbers, and tomatoes have been donated to the center.

The General Public Transportation report was given by Peggy Peters for July. This report had information on miles traveled, numbers of individuals transported, fare and donations collected and cost per ride for the mini van, the lift equipped van, and ramp equipped van. Drivers have started attending trainings from KU Transportation Center as well as training from the Consortium.

An election of a seventh member to the board in the at-large position was held. The new member on the board is Gordon D. King. Jerry Britt was elected to complete the current term as president.

Karen Mayse, AAA Representative, presented information on Caregiver Conference Calls, Senior Fair Workshops and Speakers, Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas, and the date for the Senior Fair to be held in Salina is September 21, 2010, at the Bicentennial Center.

The September meeting will be held at the Council Grove Senior Center on Monday the 13th at 2:00 p.m. All senior citizens in the county are welcome and encouraged to attend.
