CopyJohn Wilmer Evans, age 82, a resident of Howard, Kansas passed away Sunday, August 30, 2009 at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas. John was born on August 30, 1927 in Reading, Kansas the son of Lewellyn T. and Johanna (Moore) Evans. He had lived several years in the Dwight area.
John was a self employed logger. John enjoyed his work, liked to go fishing when he could and since he was young, he enjoyed gardening.
On July 7, 1952 he married Peggy J. VanNote in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. They raised 5 children and were married for 57 years until his death.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy J. Evans of their home in Howard; five sons, David Evans and his wife Kathy of Howard, Kansas, Lloyd Evans and his wife Cynthia of Howard, Kansas, John Wesley Evans and his wife Kathy of Joplin, Missouri, Gary Evans and his wife Audrey of Wichita, Kansas and Kevin Evans and his wife Lannie of Branson, Missouri; a sister, Alice Summerfield and husband Eddie of Muskogee, Oklahoma; 11 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren. Local survivors include a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tony and Mary Rey-noso of Dwight and a nephew, Keith Kahnt and wife Joann of White City.
John was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Barbara Peachin and Kathryn Curlee.
Cremation has been requested. The family will have an informal memorial service at the Cox Building (East Room) on Saturday September 5, 2009 receiving friends from 11 am until 1 pm.
The family suggests memorial contributions honoring the life of John Evans be given to the American Heart Association and sent in care of Zimmerman Funeral Home, PO Box 1233, Howard, KS 67349.
