With numerous applicants, two local students were awarded a $500 scholarship at the Wabaunsee County Farm Bureau Association's annual meeting on August 13th. In order to apply, the students' parents/guardians must be members of the Wabaunsee Co. Farm Bureau. Scholarships were awarded to the top two applicants who have or will be continuing their education through an agriculture related curriculum. Additionally, applicants were judged on their high school and/or college GPAs, activities, honors and awards. Community/church & state activities along with employment were also evaluated.

The 2009 scholarship winners are Eric Frey, son of Mike and Donice Frey, and Erin Sage, daughter of Gail Sage and Mary Anderson. Eric graduated from Wamego High School in 2006. While in high school Eric was active in FFA, football, and basketball. Eric attended Highland Community College prior to transferring to Kansas State University where he is majoring in agricultural technology management. After college, Eric would like to expand the family farm and work to make agriculture technology more efficient.

Erin graduated from Mission Valley High School in 2008 where she was active in such clubs such as FFA, Student Council, KAYS, 4-H and the Kansas High School Rodeo Association. In addition, she participated in basketball and cross country. She is attending Garden City Community College where she is majoring in business. Erin plans to graduate from GCCC with an Associate's degree in Business and then attend a university to obtain a bachelor's degree. After college she would like to obtain a career in advertising.

Wabaunsee County Farm Bureau understands the challenges of attending a state university or technical college and is eager to financially help a young enthusiast achieve their dream. Applicants, who did not receive the scholarship this year, are encouraged to apply again next year. We look forward to all applicants in2010!
