Morris County was one of the counties receiving the vaccine involved in the non-safety related voluntary recall of four lots of pediatric H1N1 vaccine by Sanofi Pasteur. The active ingredient in the vaccine is below the recommended level, but is still able to protect against infection with the pandemic flu virus. The recalled vaccine is intended only for children 6 months through 35 months of age.

The vaccine potency in the affected lots is still expected to be fully effective in preventing H1N1 flu. The Morris County Health Department wants to stress that any vaccine administered was safe. The important thing for these patients is that they receive a second dose of 2009 H1N1 vaccine, about one month after the first dose.

All affected vaccine received was administered through the Family Health Center. If your child was a recipient of the H1N1 vaccine and they have not received a second dose please contact your physician at the Family Health Center at 767-5126.

Kansans who have questions about the recall can contact the CDC public response hotline at 1-800-CDC-INFO (1-800-232-4636) or the KDHE H1N1 hotline at 1 -877-427-7317, or visit www.kdheks.gov/hlnl and click on "Individuals, Families and Communities."
