Funds will help educate Kansans on healthy eating and wholesome food

MANHATTAN - Kansas Farm Bureau has received $14,000 in grant funding from the Kansas Health Foundation that will help the state's largest farm organization educate Kansans on making life-long healthy eating choices, and provide a better understanding of where wholesome food comes from.

The highly successful and award-winning children's book series, Kailey 's Ag Adventures, will be utilized to tell an engaging story and promote good nutrition while showcasing healthy food choices and portion sizes. A complimentary supply of books will be distributed to public libraries and elementary school libraries across the state.

"This grant will help spread the message of healthy eating and cement the connection that wholesome food comes from Kansas farms and ranches," says Dan Yunk, author/creator of the book series and KFB Executive Director/CEO.

Curriculum support materials will be developed using the Kansas Department of Education curriculum standards for each appropriate age level with trained volunteers able to present programs utilizing the book and information in elementary classrooms.

The grant funds will also help produce three "field to fork" videos illustrating the growth and production stages of farm crops and animals. These videos will be provided to each of the 105 county Farm Bureaus across the state for use by public libraries and elementary school libraries.

Kansas Farm Bureau represents grassroots agriculture. Established in 1919, this non-profit advocacy organization supports farm families who earn their living in a changing industry.
