Fresh, homemade lunch items offered to businesses, public

After state cuts took a chunk of the Western Clinton County Senior Services Trenton meal site's budget, they had to do some creative thinking on how to increase their monthly income. With the help of volunteer and Trenton resident Judy Taus-chek, WCCSS opened The Vintage Kitchen in the beginning of August, offering salads, soups, sandwiches, and lunches for pick-up. The Vintage Kitchen offers delivery service to local businesses.

"We needed to do something to make more money," said site manager Denise Schilli. "We decided that this would work along with what we already do for the seniors." Tauschek has been volunteering at the Trenton site since last October, and now comes to work every morning to make food for the Vintage Kitchen.

"Everything we offer is homemade with fresh ingredients," said Tauschek.

Along with soups, salads and sandwiches, customers can also order the daily special that is funded by the Area Agency of Aging of Southwestern Illinois. The daily special is the same meal served to seniors at the WCCSS Trenton meal site.

The Vintage Kitchen is a not-for-profit business run under the senior center. All proceeds will benefit future improvements for the senior center.

Menus are available at the meal site, or can be faxed. Lunch orders should be called or faxed in to the senior center (224-2016) each day by 9 a.m. to the senior center. Questions can be directed to 224-9913.
