The Lady Dragons play today (Monday) for the season as they face off with the Bottineau Stars to stave off elimination from the District 11 playoffs.

With a win against the Sawyer Flashes last Friday, the Dunseith girls were able to get into the region-qualifier game today, a game that was originally scheduled for last Saturday, but postponed because of the weekend storm.

On the verge of elimination in the loser-out game against Sawyer, the Lady Dragons showed their character by coming back from a huge deficit behind the hot-shooting of Shayla Counts who brought her team back from the brink.

Senior Tayla Belgarde didn't want to see her career end on a sour 'note, finding in her the will to win. in a major comeback in the final two quarters.

Trailing at the half at 28-17 because of a terrible first quarter where the Lady Dragons only scored two points (12-2), the local girls fought back to win the game by the score of 57-54.

Counts led the way to the win nailing 19 points in the Dunseith win. Belgarde was a huge factor working hard for her 15 points. Junior Taylor Everett would not be denied either as she popped in 15 points for the Dragons.

Rachelle Counts had 4 points in the Sawyer game for Dunseith. Tamara Beck and Delia Ramirez each had one point for the Lady Dragons.

In the first game of the tournament, Dunseith had some struggles as they slowly fell behind as the game rolled along against Velva.

The Aggies took command in the first half padding their lead up to 30-14 as the horn sounded to end the first two quarters of play.

The Lady Dragons were a different team coming out in the third stanza fighting back to outscore the Aggies 15-13 in that period.

But the big lead was too much to overcome as the Dunseith girls saw the opening game slip away as Velva won by the score of 58-41.

Dunseith was led by Belgarde with 18 points and Taylor Everett was in double figures putting up 10 points in the losing effort for the Lady Dragons.

Also contributing for Dunseith was Rachelle Counts (8 points), Delia Ramirez (2 pts), Shayla Counts (1 pt) and Tamara Beck (1 pt).
