Hallaway wins top spots in BPA competition

Merrilee Hallaway of Rolla was one of 17 students from Minnesota State Community and Technical College, Moorhead who claimed 50 top spots in Minnesota's Business and Professionals of America state contest in February, qualifying for BPA's national completion in Anaheim. Calif., in May.

Hallaway placed 4th in the category of Fundamental Spreadsheets, 7th in Advanced Accounting and 8th in Financial Math.

BPA is an organization for students who are pursuing careers in accounting, office administration, information technology and other related fields. M State's BPA chapter advisors are accounting instructors Nancy Stigen and Allen Beaton.

As a member of the Minnesota State College and Universities System, M State serves more than 6.500 students in credit courses each term through more than 120 career and liberal arts programs at its four campuses in Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls, Moorhead and Wadena, and online. By partnering with communities, the college also provides custom training services and other responsive training programs.
