Louis Boyer

Louis Boyer, age 92, of Belcourt, passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2010, in the Belcourt Hospital, Belcourt.

Louis Riel "Roy" Boyer was born on October 3, 1917, in Belcourt, to Joseph and Josephine (Baker) Boyer. He passed away on April 3, 2010, in Belcourt at the age of 92 years old. Louis attended school until the 8th grade in Belcourt. He started working on farms near St. John and then went on to Hanson Automotive School to earn his certificate in auto body repair. He was a police officer in Rolla and St. John for a time and was an auto mechanic for many years. Louis was united in marriage to Mary Emily Nadeau on April 25, 1936, and together they had six children: Robert, Bernita, Melvin, Francis, Maria, and Sylvester. They later divorced. Louis Boyer was enlisted in the United States Army in 1944 and recieved an honorable discharge in 1945. He was a WWII veteran. On June 5, 1945, Louis married Mary Ann Wilkie and together they had four children: Rita, Louis Jr., Robert "Bobby", and Ronald "Ronnie". Mary Ann preceded him in death. Louis enjoyed the casino, fishing, playing cards, and especially watching sporting events on television. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

Louis is survived by his sons, Robert Boyer of St. John; Melvin Boyer of Williston; Francis (Georgette) Boyer of Wagner, South Dakota; Louis Jr. (Sally) Boyer of Phoenix, Arizona; and Robert "Bobby" Boyer of St. John; daughters, Bernita Bruce of Rolla; Maria (Don Jensen) Boyer-Jensen of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Rita Pitka of Wasilla, Alaska; 36 grandchildren: Arlen, Vita, Damon, Diane, Bonnie, Ray Jr., Kathryn, Melinda, Earl, Nicolle, Bruce, Bruno, Michelle, Rachael, Crystal, Craig, Leah, Kenneth, David, Dale, Donna, Don Jr., Glenn, Nana, Alfred, Louis III, Paul, Kari, Amanda, Robby, Justin, Ryan, Ronda, Chris, Jeff, and Danielle; 73 great grandchildren including: Michelle, Jennifer, Tanya, Sheldon, Ryan, Austin, Chad, Darhma, Katie,, Austin, Travis, Melissa, Aaron, Morgan, Cody, Connor, Mason, McKenzie, Brittany, Raymond, Riley, Craig Jr., Chelsy, Brooke, Brittnee, Chauncey, Peter, Kennidee, Angelica, Vanessa, Savannah, John, Christina, Dustin, Mindi, Samantha, Nicholas, Alexandra, Zachary, Melissa, Paul, Macy, Dominic, Serria, Alysha, Tayler, Mary, Skylar, Michael, Brendon, Tanneca, Zeek, Emma, Owen, Isaac, Israel, Jorden, Caley, and Andren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Irene Bushman of Washington and Maggie Shorey of Devils Lake.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Ann; sons, Sylvester and Ronald "Ronnie"; grandchildren, Sheldon, Art, and Casey; great-grandchild, Cesar; brothers, Stanley, Louis, Lloyd, and Bob; and sisters, Flora, Lucy, Del-phine, and Rosanna.

Casket Bearers were Arlen Boyer, Ryan Hiatt, Justin Boyer, Kenneth Boyer, David Bugajski, and Earl Bruce.

Honorary Bearers were Robby Boyer, Damon and Ray Jr. Bruce, Craig Boyer, Jeff Boyer, Bruce Grant, and Dale Bugajski, and all family and friends.

Music was provided by Kevin Jeanotte, Bennett Jeanotte, and Eugene Belgarde.

Gifts were brought up by Danielle Muller and Crystal Bender.

Readers were Ronda Hiatt, Rita Pitka, Nana Pitka, Maria Boyer-Jensen, and Vita Patnaude.

Rosary was led by Rita Baker and Max Nadeau.

Military Honors were provided by the Carey-Dolan American Legion Post #125 of St. John, assisted by the Armed Forces Reserve Center of Minot.

Funeral Mass was held Friday, April 9, 2010, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, St. John, with Fr. Scott Brossart, S.O.L.T. presiding. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, St. John, in the spring.

Elick Funeral Home, Rolla, was in charge of arrangements.
