Vernon "Bud" Albright

Funeral services for Vernon "Bud" Albright, age 90 of Willow City, were held on Friday, April 9, 2010, at the First Lutheran Church in Willow City. Officiating at the service was the Reverend Tim Solberg. Martha Larson was the organist. Casket bearers were Scott Solberg, Jeff Solberg, Cory Albright, Eugene Erd-man, Shane Eraas and Robert Albright. Honorary casket bearers were the Willow City American Legion. Burial was at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Willow City.

Bud Albright, a son of William and Clara (Nelson) Albright, was born on February 27, 1920 on a farm south of Overly. At a young age he moved with his family to a farm north of Willow City. He attended school in Willow City and graduated from Willow City High School in 1938. In 1940 he joined a flying club and earned his pilot license. Bud moved to Los-Angeles in 1941 and worked for the Douglas Aircraft Company. Bud married Marian Cooke on December 7, 1941, at Las Vegas. On February 14, 1945, he joined the Army-Air Force. He served in England with the 8th Air Force where he worked as a mechanic on the P-51 Mustang fighter plane. Following his discharge in 1946, he moved back to the family farm and began farming. In 1952, he and his brother, Cliff started Albright's Spraying Service which they operated for 36 years.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Willow City and the Willow City American Legion. He served on the Willow City School Board, the Farmer's Elevator Board. He helped organize the first rural fire department in Willow City and also help develop the senior housing in Willow City. He served as a Bottineau County Commissioner for 12 years. He was president of the Willow City Alumni Association and the Community Club. He was also co-chairman of the Willow City Centennial Committee. Bud was one of five members who operated Farm Supply Hardware and the Willow City Seed House.

Bud passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2010 at a Minot hospital.

He is survived by Marian, his wife of 68 years; daughter, Mary Lynn (Robert) Solberg of Kingwood, TX; son Gary (Marlys) Albright of Mohall; granddaughters, Angella Albright of Fargo, Pam (Hunter) Jesse of King-wood, TX and Ashley (Juan) Eraas of Appleton, WI; grandsons, Scott (Mary) Solberg of The Woodlands, TX, Jeff (Lauree) Solberg of Whitehouse, TX, Cory (Holly) Albright of Helena, MT, Shane Eraas of Broom-field, CO and Scott Eraas of Atlanta, GA; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Luella Thompson of St. Cloud, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.
