St. John woman pleads guilty to larceny

Acting United States Attorney Lynn Jordheim announced that on April 5, 2010, Jessica McGillis, 36. of St. John, North Dakota, pleaded guilty before United States District Court Judge Daniel L. Hovland to a charge of larceny.

From March 2008 to September 2008, McGillis served as the treasurer of the Belcourt Hospital Employees Recreational Association (BHERA), which is an organization of employees from Indian Health Services. McGillis took funds from BHERA to make unauthorized personal purchases and payments.

The charge of larceny carries a statutory maximum penalty of one year of imprisonment, a statutory maximum $100,000 fine, one year of supervised release, up to five years of probation and a $25 special assessment.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs - Turtle Mountain Agency.

Sentencing for McGillis has been scheduled for June 14, 2010, in United States District Court in Minot, North Dakota, at 11:00 a.m.

Assistant United States Attorney Brandi Sasse Russell is prosecuting the case.
