Allery among students honored for leadership

Copy"Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges" selected 19 juniors and seniors from Minot State University for inclusion in the 2010 edition. A campus nomination committee and editors of the annual directory chose the students based on academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success. Minot State honored these recipients at a luncheon April 7.
St. John native Jessie Allery was one of the students chosen and honored. She is a senior majoring in special education and elementary education. She is active as a Student Ambassador and serves as that organization's director of civic service.
She is also president of the Student Council for Exceptional Children. Allery participates in the Native American Cultural Awareness Club. Residence Hall Association, Campus Crusade for Christ, Mouse River Players and the Mentoring Program as a peer mentor.
Within the community, she has enjoyed volunteering as a Dream Catchers friend, a Special Olympics coach, a paraprofessional at Minot Public Schools, and with the Sunshine Club, a program to help K-12 students get basic school clothes.
'Allery's involvement includes the V-Day Campaign, helping children during autism diagnostics, and special education summer programs.
Through the March 2009 American Council for Rural Special Education Conference, she presented and has been published. She received a Diversity Award and was listed on the College of Education and Health Sciences Dean's List.
