Marie B. Lawrence

Marie B. Lawrence, age 103, of Rolla, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2010, in the Bottineau Good Samaritan Center, Bottineau.

Marie B. Lawrence was born on March 2, 1906, in Fairfax, Minnesota, the daughter of Henry and Ida (Tushy) Wendt, immigrants from Germany. They moved to Perth, North Dakota, in the fall of 1915. Marie attended and graduated from Perth High School and went on to Valley City State College. She taught school for 31 years in one-room rural schools and in small towns at Perth, Knox, Gardena, and St. John. Marie was united in marriage to Eugene Lawrence on September 30, 1933. She moved to Rolla in the fall of 1957. Mrs. Lawrence was active in church and community affairs as a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, LWMF, taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and confirmation classes along with being a member of the Rolla Senior Citizens Club, past president and treasurer, and involved in the Senior Meals Service. She did fundraising and home deliveries and was active in the Rolla Hospital Auxiliary and the gift shop at the hospital. Mrs. Lawrence was a member of the North Dakota Retired Teachers Association. She will be lovingly missed.

Mrs. Lawrence is survived by her children, Elaine Lange of Rolla; Curtis (Jean) Lawrence of Huber Heights, Ohio; Eleanor Bader of Emerado; Carol Schoening of Rolla; Linda Bursinger of Rolla, and Kenneth (Robin) Lawrence of Pembina; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lawrence was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, three sisters, a granddaughter, and a great-grandson.

Casket Bearers are Marie's great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Honorary Bearers are all family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rolla, with Pastor Scott Ramey officiating. Burial will be in the Rolla City Cemetery, Rolla, following Funeral Services.

Elick Funeral Home of Rolla is in charge of arrangements.
