Olive L. (Tastad) Seehafer

Olive L. (Tastad) Seehafer, 87 a lifelong resident of the Rolette area passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the Rolette Community Care Center, Rolette.

Funeral Services for Olive were held on Friday, May 21, 2010, at Valle Lutheran Church, Rolette, with the Rev. John Hesford officiating. Burial was in the Rolette Cemetery.

Serving as casket bearers for Olive were David Armstrong, Rodney Armstrong, Nolan Seehafer, Pete Best, Danny Tastad, Robert Hag-gerty, Milt Myhre and Roland Armstrong.

Music was provided by LaVonne Ivey, Dianne Montonye and Jim Mongeon.

Olive Lucile Armstrong was born on September 10, 1922, at Rolette, the daughter of Owen and Eva (Flo-rey) Armstrong. She attended Union School for grades 1-8 and graduated from Rolette High School in 1940. She graduated from Minot State Teachers College in 1942 and returned to Union School for her first year of teaching. She then taught one year in Dunseith, three years in Rolla and one year in Grafton.

Olive married Harold Tastad on June 27, 1948, at Valle Lutheran Church in Rolette. They established their farm west of Rolette which eventually evolved into a registered Angus ranch named McCumber Angus Ranch.

Through the years, Olive was a homemaker, returning to teaching in 1962 at Rolette Public School until her retirement in 1981. Harold passed away in 1985. In 1988, Olive married Reinhold Seehafer and Rein-hold died in 1995. In July of 2009, Olive moved to the Rolette Community Care Center.

Olive was active in the Umbria Homemaker's Club, the Rolette Homemaker's Club, the Rolette PTA and the Friendship Club. She was a member of Valle Lutheran Church and involved in numerous activities including Sunday School and Bible School teacher and superintendent, church treasurer, WELCA and the quilting group. She has pieced countless mission quilts, the denim quilts for the Valle graduating seniors for many years and numerous quilts for family and friends. She also enjoyed doing hardanger and has created many pieces for family and friends.

Olive spent her summer months caring for a large garden, canning and freezing the produce which she so generously shared with family and friends. She also was always interested in the happenings at the ranch. She treasured time with her family and the last years she especially enjoyed the great grandchildren and playing hours of Skipbo with them and her sister-in-law, Mabel.

Olive is survived by her son. Chuck Tastad and his wife Gail of Rolette; her two daughters, Nancy and her husband Karsten Braaten of Rice, Minnesota, and Wanda and her husband Gary Hein of Lincoln, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Matthew (Cynthia) Tastad, Jeanna (Keith) Strong, Krista (Kyle) Walter and Jordan (Jessica) Hein; and seven greatgrandchildren, Sydney, Eva, Nate and Brett Tastad, Hannah and Addison Strong and Zane Walter.

Many nieces, nephews and their families also survive.

Olive was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Harold Tastad and Reinhold Seehafer; brothers, Howard Armstrong and Frank Armstrong.
