Lucile Evangeline Anfinson

Turtle Mountain Star of Rolla, North Dakota

Lucile Evangeline Anfinson, 91 of Towner, died on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Rolette Community Care Center in Rolette.

She was born on October 21, 1918, at Nanson, the daughter of Alfred Oliver and Anna Ellena (Braaten) Holmly.

She was raised in the Nanson and Mylo area of Rolette County and attended Union Township Elementary School and graduated from Rolette High School in 1935. She attended Minot State Teachers College for one year and graduated from Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Rugby in 1939 as a registered nurse.

She married Norval Elroy Anfinson on June 7, 1942, at Ox Creek Lutheran Church, rural Rolette. She worked as a nurse in hospitals and clinics in Rugby, Rolla, Rolette and Crookston, Minnesota.

Later she was the supervisor of the Community Health Agency in Belcourt. She retired in 1970. She chose to be a nurse to help people and her career was the joy of her working life. She and her husband moved to Olympia, Washington, in 1973 and returned to Towner in 1992.

In earlier years she was an active member of the Mylo and Ox Creek Lutheran Churches. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Towner and the WELCA and quilters group at the church. She was also a member of the Darners Club and the Red Hat Ladies in Towner and the Good Samaritan Hospital Nurses Alumni Association. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading and cooking. Her husband died on June 12, 1999.

She is survived her children: Carol Berg, Towner, Curtis and his wife Joan, and Marilyn and her husband Curtis Walsh of Mylo, Randi and his wife Sara, Devils Lake and Ronnie and his wife Catherine, Cando. She also leaves 13 grandchilden and six great-grandchildren. She leaves one sister, Amy Bickler, Minot; and two sisters-in-law, Aleda Holmly, Rugby and Gen Holmly, Salem, Oregon.

Many nieces and nephews and cousins also survive her.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and three brothers. Gordon, Lester and Gilman.

A Funeral service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Towner on Monday, May 24, 2010, at 2 p.m. Rev. Tim Solberg and Wally Fretland will officiate.

Casket bearers will be Aaron, Carl, Graeme, Jodi and Matthew Anfinson; Jason Berg, Kris Boon, Michelle Walsh-Harpole, Amy Lovseth, Aliza Owens, Steven Walsh, and John and Krista Zimbro.

The Towner Red Hat Ladies and Zion Lutheran Quilters will be the honorary casketbearers.

Music will be provided by Special Delivery.

Burial will be in the Mylo Community Cemetery.

Niewoehner Funeral Home, Rugby, was in charge of arrangements.
