South Dakota man pleads guilty to abuse crime in Turtle Mountains

Acting United States Attorney Lynn Jordheim announced that on May 18,2010, Francis M. Baker, Jr., 35, of McLaughlin, South Dakota, pleaded guilty before United States District Court Judge Daniel L. Hov-land to a charge of aggravated

sexual abuse of a child.

Baker admitted that from September 1995 to August 2002, on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation, he engaged in sexual acts with a child under 12 years of age.

The charge of aggravated sexual abuse of a child carries a statutory maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and Northern Plains Children's Advocacy Center. Sentencing for Baker has been scheduled for August 23, 2010, in United States District Court in Bismarck, North Dakota, at 1:00 p.m.

The United States Attorney's Office prosecuted this case under the Project Safe Childhood Initiative.

Assistant United States Attorney Gary Delorme is prosecuting the case.
