Emeline Counts, a daughter of Noe and Florida (Cote) Laframboise, was born on August 20, 1915, near Rolette. She was reared and educated in the Willow City area. On September 12, 1933, she married Everett Counts at Rolla. They made their home near Dunseith until 1941 when they moved to farm near Souris. In 1956 they moved into Souris. Emeline worked at Monkman's Cafe (Muggy's) from the late 1940s until 1969. She was then a clerk at the Souris Post office. Everett passed away on August 6,1968. In 1972 she started working at the Trutna Store in Bottineau before moving to Bottineau in 1979.

Emeline was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Souris and later joined St. Mark's Catholic Church in Bottineau. She was known as "grandma" to many of the children in Souris and enjoyed doing sewing projects including clothes and cheerleading outfits for them. She enjoyed baking and quilting! Many people in the area have been blessed with one of her quilts or one of her delicious doughnuts. She enjoyed having rummage sales, because it gave her the chance to visit with people. She loved going to Braves hockey games or Sioux basketball games and if she couldn't go she was listening to them on the radio. However the love she had for these things never matched the love she had for her family.

Emeline passed away on Friday, May 14, 2010 at the Bottineau hospital. '

She is survived by her grandchildren, Kim (Gary) Weydahl of Minot, Leslie (Larry) Tooke of Souris, Michelle Skaaden of Souris, Kelly (Jim) Artz of Souris, Chad (Jodi) Spokely of Glenburn and Tange (Larry) Stone of Surrey; 15 great grandchildren, Eric Weydahl, Jennifer Bright, Ryan George, Garrett George, Kalli Jo Artz, Luke Artz, McKayla Artz, Hunter Tooke, Casey Tooke, Kyle Spokely, Blake Spokely, Shelby Spokely, Sidney Spokely, Izzy Spokely and Rhet Volk; 8 great-great grandchildren, Emmalee, Fran-kee.
