Maureen Munro, Jim Langseth and Faye Langseth, Rolla Horizons members, participated in the Horizons Partnership Luncheon and workshop held at the Ramkota Hotel, Bismarck, on September 23, 2009. The purpose of the luncheon and workshop was to facilitate all North Dakota Horizons communities' connections with partners, services, resources, and programs across North Dakota.

Participants spent the afternoon attending a variety of resource roundtables for identified issue areas including housing development, community security, small business cooperative development, farmers markets, business financing, community marketing, tourism development, youth and adult entrepreneurship, youth-adult partnerships, non-profit development, business financing, community beautification/enhancement/welcoming and community infrastructure including essential services.

Rolla is one of 15 current Horizons communities in ND. The program is funded by the Northwest Area Foundation, and facilitated by the NDSU Extension Service. The program goals are to address poverty issues in small, rural communities by building and developing local leadership bases. Please contact any one of the Rolla members to see how you can become a part of this exciting program!

Rolla Horizons has put together its vision plan that the Northwest Area Foundation needs to approve in order to get the advance funding dollars. Rolla's vision plan has six goal areas that have or will be put into action. Goal #1 is a community center, contact Leann Vollmer (477-5800), Goal #2 is an information hub, contact Kerry Lentz (477-3566), Goal #3 is tourism/events, contact Marietta Good (477-5316), Goal #4 is a grant writing group, contact Glenn Murphy (477-3797), Goal #5 is a job fair/job shadowing, contact Val Edwards (477-6139) and Goal #6 is a community garden. If you are interested in any of the projects, please do a contact and join in the group. The community garden doesn't have a committee organized yet so if anyone is interested in this group, please contact Maureen Munro (477-3477). Rolla also has a community blog site that is associated with Horizons, please check it out at www.communityblogs.us. A community that works together can get anything accomplished.
